UK Terrorism Threat Level Lowered to 'Substantial'
The UK's terrorism threat level has been lowered from 'severe' to 'substantial.'
The move comes after a significant reduction in the momentum of attacks in Europe, but means security chiefs believe that an attack is still likely. During this time, the public should continue to report any concerns regarding suspicious activity to the Police.
The assessment of threat levels are taken by the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC), which makes its recommendations independently from the government. The five levels of threat set by the JTAC are as follows:
- Low - an attack is highly unlikely
- Moderate - an attack is possible but not likely
- Substantial - an attack is likely
- Severe - an attack is highly likely
- Critical - an attack is highly likely in the near future
SecuriGroup's dedicated frontline workers receive key training in Action Counters Terrorism (ACT), and will continue to protect life and property. Despite the downgrade in level, it is vital that there is no room for complacency amongst security professionals - we must continue to remain vigilant against the ever-evolving threat of terrorism.
