SecuriGroup has recently been awarded a landmark five-year contract to provide specialist manned security services and cruise liner season support to one of the UK's largest port operators, Forth Ports.
The dynamic UK-based multimodal ports owner and operator offers businesses a wide range of diverse, port-related services; through its logistical gateways across the country, Forth Ports helps to connect the UK with Europe and the rest of the world.
As part of a very successful year of growth in 2017, we are very proud to begin the year with the addition of such a high profile, prestigious client to our UK security portfolio. The timing of the Forth Ports awards comes as we commence the project demobilisation at the Queensferry Crossing where our teams have been securing one of Europe's largest infrastructure projects for almost six years.
Our provision of security services for Forth Ports will extend across seven key port facilities across Scotland – Grangemouth, Edinburgh, Kirkcaldy, Burntisland, Rosyth, Dundee and Methil.
Our best practice approach has evolved over years of marine environment security experience at Nigg Energy Park and with oilfield services giant, Halliburton.
During the cruise season, which runs between April and October, we will support Forth Ports as they host cruise liners from all over the world at Rosyth, Leith, Newhaven and Dundee.
With almost 130 predicted this year, and the possibility of up to three simultaneously, our dedicated events teams will be deployed to ensure the safe and secure transfer of passengers and crew to the shoreside.
As one of the fastest growing companies in the UK's private security industry, and ranked in the Top 5% of our Home Office regulator's approved contractor scheme, we understand that effective planning is crucial to the successful operation of such any contract.
This will be particularly true with regards to the vastly increased requirements during the cruise season; under peak demand, SecuriGroup will supply up to an additional 50 security personnel each day.
Dedicated Contract Manager Alfie Cummings is responsible for the management of all sites, liaising regularly with the team of dedicated Area Managers who are assigned to each location. With an extensive Navy background, Alfie brings unique experience and expertise to the specialist ports environment.
As the largest security company headquartered in Scotland, and a leader in the UK security industry, our unrivalled resilience will ensure Forth Ports are supported by high-quality security professionals.
Working in close partnership with Forth Ports, the SecuriGroup management team mobilised the entire contract over the festive period, including the transfer of all personnel, the creation and roll-out of bespoke uniforms and a tailored training programme. This process was completed seamlessly in less than two months, including the transfer of 45 personnel ahead of the operational go-live date in early January.
A vital element in providing professional and well-motivated security teams is the provision of management support. The contract is led from board level by SecuriGroup Operations Director and former Assistant Chief Constable, Allan Burnett QPM BSc (Hons) FSyI, with support from Regional Manager, John Gallacher.
Both have extensive experience in all aspects of security valuable to this contract, and over the course of the five-year contract, have scope to build confidently on knowledge gained, and invest in an ever-improving service to Forth Ports and their various stakeholders and customers. Operations Director, Allan Burnett, brings a wealth of specialist expertise gleaned from a distinguished thirty-year police career where he retired as the Head of Counter-terrorism in Scotland and received the Queen's Police Medal.
In addition to clear legislative requirements and scrutiny - designed to preserve safety and security - this is also an environment in which customer care is vital.
Russel Kerr, SecuriGroup Managing Director
A key part of our service delivery is our approach to training. Before being deployed to any site, all staff will complete our custom two-day training course, consisting of essential International Shipping and Port Facility training and more specialist modules covering the use of specialist equipment, knowledge of the site and roles, traffic management, and general preparation for all duties and responsibilities.
Having agreed on a five-year contract, SecuriGroup is now in the best position to use its strengths and work in close collaboration with Forth Ports with the confidence that our shared investments have more time to fully develop and deliver clear value.
Following a competitive tender process for the national contract, SecuriGroup was chosen for our proven ability to provide the required services and a clear balance between operational requirements and cost.
