Since its opening in 2017, the Queensferry Crossing has quickly become an iconic landmark for the East of Scotland. Standing resolute alongside the Forth Bridge and Forth Road Bridge, the 2.7km Queensferry Crossing remains the longest three-towered cable-stayed bridge in the world, defining the Queensferry, Fife and Edinburgh skylines.
SecuriGroup has been proud to have supported the project, since being awarded the security services contract in 2012. As the largest infrastructure project in Europe at the time, we understood the importance and responsibility such a role had in the protection of the project's integrity and progress under significant media attention.
Over the past eight years, SecuriGroup has provided security services that included physical guarding, mobile patrols and security systems, resulting in the delivery of a complete security solution protecting workers, visitors, vehicles and plant equipment.
During the mobilisation and early stages of planning, SecuriGroup worked in collaboration with Forth Crossing Bridge Constructors (FCBC) to utilise our industry leading security systems expertise, developing a unique and augmented security approach, blending the traditional forms of security with innovative technologies. This approach would enhance the security service on site yet save the client over £250,000 over the course of the contract.
Since the beginning of the contract, SecuriGroup has provided almost half a million hours of physical security presence and covered 300,000 miles in mobile vehicle patrols.
The innovative and complex integration of systems into the security solution did not go unnoticed. In 2017, SecuriGroup, was awarded the British Security Industry Association Award for Best Use of Technology.
Regional Manager, John Gallacher, responsible for the delivery of the service, had this to say of the contract's conclusion:
"We are extremely proud to have been part of such an iconic project. Our security officers, CCTV operators, mobile support teams and security system engineers worked seamlessly to deliver a first class security service at scale."
As the contract draws to an end now that final works are completed, SecuriGroup is able to reflect with pride on our involvement with FCBC over the previous eight years. We have developed valued partnerships, and look forward to the possibility of supporting the Scottish Government in future landmark projects.
