Engaging with the Prevent Strategy

Engaging with the Prevent Strategy

SecuriGroup is proud to announce the success of its recent event surrounding Counter Terrorism best practice at the Southbank Centre in London on the 1st March 2017.

Led by SecuriGroup Chair, Baroness Ruth Henig, the event featured interesting and engaging presentations by SecuriGroup Operations Director, Allan Burnett QPM, and Glasgow-born Mr Saddaqat Khan, who shared his own personal experience of the Prevent strategy. The seminar was well attended by current and prospective London-based SecuriGroup clients, along with several members of the London Universities Purchasing Consortium.

As a recently approved supplier to the LUPC framework, the event gave the Company a chance to showcase our expertise surrounding a topic that has never been more important given the current security climate.

Following Allan's recently published article in the LUPC's quarterly magazine, the event focused on the key role that security providers have to play in protecting the assets of not only higher and further education establishments, but of businesses and corporate buildings throughout the UK. The Counter Terrorism and Security Act (CTSA) 2015 introduced a new statutory duty for institutions to 'have due regard to the need to prevent individuals from being drawn into terrorism.'

With security guarding often being 24/7 work, security personnel may see things that others do not. As a frontline service, they have a particular insight, and the early indications of an individual experiencing challenging issues may first be observed by security. Allan spoke of the importance of internal mechanisms that should therefore be in place to allow effective information-sharing between both a client and their security provider.

Baroness Henig commented that 'those attending the seminar were relieved to hear how a security provider experienced in the Prevent Strategy can work with institutions to resolve problems and provide reassurance in this complex and very important area,' deeming the event to be 'a great success.'

SecuriGroup would like to thank all who gave up their time to attend the event, and we hope to hold similar seminars in the future.
