Business in the Community, The Prince's Responsible
Business Network, have set up a campaign week to encourage businesses of all
sizes to play their part in implementing online safety.
SecuriGroup is supporting BITC in their campaign week 'Would You Be Ready' (18th-22nd March, 2019). The full report can be found by clicking here.
We understand that companies have a wealth of responsibilities to deal with on a daily basis that may put cyber security on the back burner, such as ensuring health and safety regulations or implementing data protection policies. However, the reality is that a cyber breach could spark the end for a business.
99.9% of UK businesses are small and medium sized. With these enterprises being such an integral part of the UK's economy, it is imperative they are as robust as possible.
While large employers frequently grab the headlines when it comes to cyber security, it is small businesses who are disproportionately at risk of losing everything when a cyber-attack hits. Some attacks can cost businesses up to the tune of £8,000.
BITC have commissioned a YouGov survey of current cyber security practices of small and medium sized businesses across a variety of areas to support their vision that 'a responsible business is a successful business.'
The new report from BITC, whose Royal Founding Patron is HRH The Prince of Wales, highlights that 40% of small businesses have not undertaken any cyber security action in the last 12 months, with around a third having no strategy in place to cope with the impact of a cyber-attack.
Size matters – most small businesses don't realise the impact their lack of awareness and investment into prevention strategies can have not only to them, but through the supply chain. Previously reported cyber attacks on large companies, such as Ticketmaster, show that smaller third-party suppliers can have a knock on effect to larger organisations.
BITC is challenging businesses across every sector to take its free five-minute Readiness Test to help them gauge how at risk their business is from cyber-attacks. At the end of the test, businesses will receive downloadable advice with quick and easy tips to adopt, helping them to ensure that they're prepared for a range of scenarios.
